In Bangladesh, the position of the leather industry is second only to the garment industry in earning foreign exchange. However, this industry has the bright potential to capture new markets and build a better position in old markets. For this, proper planning and special activism is essential. Along with tanned leather from Bangladesh, now shoes, travel bags, belts, and wallets are being exported abroad. There is also demand for various 'fancy' products made of leather. There are a lot of handicraft companies in Bangladesh that manufacture these products and send them to the world market. In addition to the big companies, there are about 5,500 small footwear factories in the country. Bangladesh is the 8th largest footwear-producing country and the 9th largest consumer market in the world.
Every year, 22 crore square feet of leather is produced in the country. 50 percent of these leathers are used in the leather industry of the country. The rest is processed and exported. The leather of Bangladesh is exported more to Italy, South Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Exports in the leather sector have increased by more than 70 times in the last five decades. The demand for footwear in this country is increasing by leaps and bounds. Many domestic companies are getting orders from world-renowned companies to manufacture footwear. As a result, many companies producing leather and leather products have already taken the initiative to expand their business. 90 percent of the raw materials in this industry are available in the country. Only 50 percent of the tanned leather produced is used to make footwear and other products. From that side, it is possible to double the expansion of the leather products and footwear industry.
On the other hand, due to the coronavirus pandemic, most industries have experienced periods of downtime. In this situation, the non-woven industry has become busier than ever. The market for non-woven services such as medical, healthcare, sanitation, wipes, etc., products has been declared as an essential business, and there is unprecedented high demand for medical equipment such as protective clothing, masks, and respirators. This means many companies in this industry must increase production or expand existing businesses into new markets.
Considering all these, today's exhibition has been organized under the same roof with the latest products and technologies of the world-famous companies in the industry. Organizers believe that the role of exhibitions will be an even more important factor in the future. This exhibition will play a special role in transforming Bangladesh into a New Bangladesh; this is their aim and objective.
